Email to all staff and students, from: Rychard Scrase-Field, Assistant Director of Estates and Facilities

With the estates and catering services being brought in-house at the end of this month, the SOAS Food team have been gearing up to launch the new food offer for the start of the new term, with the arrival of new and returning students and full academic activity resuming.

The team are working up new menus and recipes for the SOAS Refectory in the main college building, so that the food and drink offer will reflect what staff and students have said in their feedback and in response to tasting sessions over recent months.

As part of welcoming new students, there will be food vouchers and offers in packs for welcome week so that students can get a good taste of what’s available. Improved signage and more up to date information on menus is also being provided to the community, together with opportunities for feedback, so that the team can continue to improve and provide what people want.

Jane Winter, Head of Catering, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming new and returning students and staff to show what we can do and provide you with tasty, healthy and ethically sourced food and drink. We know that this is a great opportunity to start our new SOAS Food service with a very positive welcome to everyone.”

As a necessary part of handover process from Elior, both the refectory and SCR will be closed in the week beginning Monday 27 August, so that SOAS’s own systems and facilities can be put in place. Hospitality services continue to operate to support booked in events and meetings in this week. The Students Union’s own shop on the ground floor remains open. Once re-opened, the refectory team will start to build up services in readiness for the new term.

Updates and information on the new SOAS Food offer will be provided in the bulletin over the coming weeks.
