What change is happening?
- From 1 September 2018, SOAS will run its own facilities and provide its own catering.
- We will no longer use external companies to provide these core services.
- All staff who currently work here for Bouygues and Elior will be employed by SOAS from this date.
- This covers cleaning, catering, conferencing and events hospitality, portering, security, mechanical and electrical services, post room, help desk and reception.
- This includes staff on all types of contract – full-time, part-time and casual.
- There are over 120 staff who will transfer.
- Pay and conditions will be the same as for other staff at SOAS. This includes sick pay, pensions and holiday.
- Staff will be part of the “One Professional Service” at SOAS which brings together all non-academic staff working at SOAS
What is the process?
- SOAS is working with the trade union UNISON and with Bouygues and Elior to make sure this change is a success.
- We will take time to plan carefully for this change to make sure it goes smoothly.
- SOAS will provide information to all staff who are transferring.
- We will ask you what you think about the plans as they develop.
- We will make sure we answer questions that you might have as the process goes ahead.
