An Image Database of Persian Historical Documents from Iran and Central Asia up to the 20th Century

This project has been developed since 2008 by the Iranian Studies Division at the Centre of Near and Middle Eastern Studies, Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany).

The database includes about 1000 “public” and “private” documents: royal decrees and orders, official correspondence, and shari’a court documents, such as contracts of sale and lease, vaqf deeds, marriage contracts, and court orders, written throughout the second millenium (the oldest file is dated from the 13th century) and currently stored at different libraries, state archives and personal collections.

It also serves as a bibliographic reference tool, being a continually updated repertoire of published historical documents.

www.asnad.org is an important tool for freely accessing primary sources on the history of Iran and its surroundings.
