Gender, Peacebuilding and the Politics of Space: Lunchtime talk

22 February 2016

11:30 AM, SOAS

Lunchtime talk with Dr Laura J Shepherd (UNSW, Australia)

Proceeding from the assumption that discourse has constitutive effects, this research examines the ways in which gender and space manifest in peacebuilding discourse of various United Nations entities and associated organisations. Through the analysis of all publicly available documentation produced by the UN Peacebuilding Commission, and interviews conducted in New York in 2013 and 2014, the research maps out representations of gender and space, and investigates the ways in which ideas about knowledge, expertise and capacity are produced by and productive of ideas about both gender and spatial politics.
