This interdisciplinary journal was first published in Hebrew by Manchester University Press between 1944 and 1955. The journal was relaunched in English in 2004, under the auspices of the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Manchester and has, since then, been published annually

The journal covers all aspects of Jewish history and culture from ancient times to the present day. The title Melilah refers to the ears of corn that are plucked to rub between the hands before the grains can be eaten (Deut. 23125)
