18th – 21st May 2022, Kraków

The Jagiellonian University Institute for the Study of Religions and the SOAS Centre of Yoga Studies invite you to participate in the international academic conference: Yoga darśana, yoga sādhana: methods, migrations, mediations.

Let us be honest with you – working as a Yoga Studies scholar is a lot more precarious than many of you might realise. Part-time, unpaid, and short-term work is common. Entire disciplines and departments are threatened with closure in many countries. Budgets are stretched and favours called in to do amazing research. Books are written in snatched pockets of time. And once in a while, we find a reason and enough budget to come together – to share theories, argue over data, and to dream up collaborations and be inspired by each other.

5 years ago, the Jagiellonian University Institute for the Study of Religions brought us together for one such conference, and we’re still talking about it. So much so, we decided that despite an ongoing pandemic, it was time to plan another. If you’re just starting post-graduate research, this may be the most important conference you ever attend. If you’re an old hand, you already know how much fun it will be to be there.

We’ve been working on this for months, and now it’s official – the Call for Papers is open. Join us, and please share!

And if you’re not a scholar, don’t worry, we’ll do what we can to share the event, and its outputs with you too.
