SOAS Open Access Policy

The Scholarly Communications team has launched the brand new SOAS Open Access Policy. The updated policy is in line with the Decolonising SOAS Vision and its commitment to redress barriers to knowledge, encourage public engagement and promote research ethics and best practice.

The new policy sets out the responsibilities of SOAS researchers, such as providing publication details and depositing their research in the repository, SOAS Research Online. The policy includes definitions of key open access terms, clarifies institutional responsibilities, and identifies the guidance and support available to researchers at SOAS.

It applies to all SOAS researchers, including Doctoral Researchers, and encourages authors to register for an ORCID iD to enable them to get credit for their work. Authors are also strongly encouraged to make underlying research data open access, where possible.

Updating the SOAS Open Access Policy is a key component of our preparations for the REF 2021. Benefits of this policy go beyond the REF and include wider dissemination of SOAS research worldwide; ensuring compliance with funder policies and eligibility for the next REF; and preserving SOAS research outputs. It is an important step towards an Open Research future.
