Following the 2010 elections, Myanmar/Burma has seen rapid political and economic reforms with the installation of a democratic government. Major parts of these reforms include the new Ceasefire Agreements singed between the government and the armed ethnic groups. The setback, however, is that, despite the ceasefire agreements, fighting between the government’s Burma Army and the armed ethnic groups is still going on particularly in Kachin State and Shan State.
