Learn to read Aljamiado in the text!

Dr Nuria Martínez de Castilla Muñoz, Association member and lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Complutense University of Madrid, will offer an Aljamiado reading course at the Warburg Institute in London from 13th October to 3rd November 2014.

Participants will learn to read Aljamiado, or Spanish written in Arabic script. The texts used will be 16th and 17th century manuscripts copied by Moriscos. The course will also explore the texts’ historical and cultural contexts as well as the codicology of Morisco manuscripts.

The course will meet Mondays from 4.15pm to 7.10pm in Room 1 of the Warburg Institute, University of London, School of Advanced Study; Woburn Square, London WC1H 0AB (just behind SOAS).
It is free of charge. Participants are required to have a basic reading knowledge of Spanish and a basic knowledge of the Arabic script.
