The prestigious Journal of the American Oriental Society has made its out-of-copyright material available on open-access. Content covers research by American scholars and Orientalists on the literatures and civilizations of the Near East, North Africa, South and Southeast Asia, Inner Asia, the Far East and the Islamic World.

Open-access volumes cover Vol.1 (1843) to Vol. 42 (1922)

Also available are the two precursor titles to the Journal of Near Eastern Studies – Hebraica (Vol.1 – Vol.11, 1884-1895) and the American Journal of Semitic Languages and Literatures (Vol.12 – Vol.58, 1895-1941). Whilst earlier volumes had an emphasis on Old Testament studies, scope later broadened to cover the varied civilizations of the Near Eastern region from ancient times to the pre-modern era.
