The French Institute for the Near East (Ifpo) collections serves the advancement of knowledge on the Middle East in general and Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian territories and Iraq in particular, in all the disciplines of humanities and social sciences, from Antiquity to our times.

From its three firmly grounded scientific departments (Contemporary Studies, Medieval and Modern Arab Studies and Archaeology and Ancient History), Ifpo has developed a large academic spectrum, serving both the local and international academic communities.
By putting up the works of its researchers online and in open access on the HAL-SHS website, Ifpo is increasing their regional and international visibility.

The material openly accessible includes articles (mainly in French), electronic books, and a photo archive hosted on MédiHal‘s website. Whenever possible, articles or abstracts have been accompanied with their translation in English  as well as in Arabic to open them up to the local and international scientific community.
