This is the blog of the Department of Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. The Department combines unrivalled expertise of regional development in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and Latin America with an outstanding reputation for the study of non-Western development processes and systems of thought.

The blog gives a snapshot of the distinctive approach taken to a range of development issues at SOAS. Particular focus areas of research within the Department include: Labour, Movements and DevelopmentNeoliberalism, Globalisation and StatesViolence, Peace and DevelopmentWater and DevelopmentMigration, Mobility and DevelopmentAgrarian Change and Development Development Policy, Aid, Institutions and Poverty Reduction and Industrial Policy and Performance.

The site is a space for SOAS Development Studies staff, students and academic visitors to share their ideas and approaches to a wide range of critical development issues. We also welcome comments from our readers.
